CHEAT
Don't try and cheat us, MOE. We all know there's something about the Chinese paper that went horribly wrong. Was it the fact that it was too easy, which prevented a substantial standard deviation, or was it because of the change of syllabus that caused that TOP 3 PSLE scorers to come from minority race groups? I'm not being racist, but c'mon, I can't sit here and say, "Let's face it. The chinese are the dumbest race in Singapore."
Forming the majority of Singaporeans, it is most likely that most of the top scorers for PSLE every year come from Chinese backgrounds, which has been the case for many years, with non-chinese doing well rarely due to their small number. Does it make sense, then, that all of a sudden, malays and indians become so much more intelligent that they practically dominate the top 3 placings in Singapore?
I don't find my score spectacular, but I'm not upset over it, to put it simply. BUT THE BRIGHT SPARKS SHOULD BE UNHAPPY WITH THE PSLE! This PSLE was WAY TOO EASY to sieve out the BRIGHT SPARKS, like I said yesterday. It will cause detriment to the average, harkworking pupils in the future because it gives them a wrong gage of their abilities that might lead to them overestimating themselves and setting TOO-HIGH GOALS (in my humble opinion, of course).
Look at it this way: a PSLE like this will cause pupils who lack the ability to do higher-order thinking but work hard and practically MEMORISE TEMPLATES as to how to answer questions to excel. The GENIUSES (eg. Chu Lee Voon & Rachel Lim) on the other hand, who do not resort to such despicable methods but are able to use their 'close-to-supernatural' brainpower to tackle higher order thinking questions, will not be able to shine in examinations like this OVEREASY PSLE because EVERYONE who either 1) has brains or 2) memorises day & night, will be able to answer the questions. That way, the geniuses will not be able to set themselves apart from their peers, and may even do worse than them if they are careless (hardworking people are usually SUPER-CAREFUL). The solution to this problem? Well, there's no solution for either (the Chinese paper, or overall) problem since its over, but I feel that the MOE SHOULD rethink raising the standard of the PSLE next year. If the entire cohort does badly, the marks can be moderated in proportion to how the rest of the cohort has fared. Man... I so damn feel like writing to the forum page instead of writing here where no one's going to read! But if I write to the forum page, chances are I'm going to be accused of either 1) being racist or 2)sour grapes!
Forget it... Isn't life unfair? When we get to Secondary school, its time for us to strut our stuff, to show our true colours. By that time, easy exams like these will be unheard of, and I look at it in a good light. OMG. Are my posts THAT long? I think half-an-hour has passed! I'm gonna watch Goong on YouTube, see you guys tomorrow! Byee!!!
